How to set the temperature of the cabinet air conditioner properly?

2026-07-13

In scenarios such as data centers, industrial control rooms, and communication base stations, cabinet air conditioning is the "invisible guardian" that ensures the stable operation of precision equipment. Its service targets electrical components, servers, and energy storage devices, not the human body. However, many operation and maintenance personnel are often at a loss when faced with the densely packed buttons and codes on the cabinet air conditioning control panel - how much temperature should be set? How to enter the settings interface? What happens if the setting is too low? These issues may seem simple, but they are directly related to equipment lifespan, energy consumption costs, and operational safety.

1、 Why is temperature setting so important?

Electrical equipment will continue to generate heat due to the action of current during operation. If the temperature is too high, it will accelerate insulation aging, increase resistance, reduce component life, and even directly burn out. But many people have a naive and dangerous intuition - the lower the temperature, the safer the device. The fact is exactly the opposite.

The essential difference between cabinet air conditioning and household air conditioning is that household air conditioning serves people and pursues coolness and comfort for the human body; Cabinet air conditioning serves equipment and aims to stabilize the temperature inside the cabinet within the optimal working range of electronic components. If the temperature is set too low (such as below 18 ℃), when the temperature inside the cabinet is much lower than the ambient temperature, the moisture in the air will condense into water droplets on the surface of the equipment, causing a short circuit accident. The intuition that the lower the operating temperature of semiconductor components and capacitors, the better, is intercepted by the safety red line of "condensation risk" in the low-temperature region.

In addition, the lower the set temperature, the lower the actual cooling output of the air conditioner, and the more heat leakage the cabinet receives from the environment, resulting in prolonged operation of the compressor, increased power consumption, and greater condensate discharge. It can be said that improper temperature setting is a dual input operation that is neither safe nor energy-saving.

2、 How much temperature should be set?

Based on industry practice and manufacturer's general guidelines, the set temperature of cabinet air conditioning should follow the following principles:
Data center/server cabinet: 22-25 ℃, the optimal range for balancing heat dissipation and energy conservation;
Industrial electrical cabinet/energy storage cabinet: 25-28 ℃, the optimal working range for most electronic components;
Outdoor cabinet (high temperature environment in summer): 22-23 ℃, can be appropriately lowered to compensate for environmental heat load;
Ordinary network cabinet: 24-25 ℃, conservative setting value for general scenarios;

The industry standard factory default cooling temperature is generally 25 ℃, which is suitable for over 90% of equipment requirements. For special scenarios such as drone nests and substations, the temperature can be adjusted to 22-25 ℃ in a targeted manner. It should be noted that the optimal operating temperature for the vast majority of electronic components is between 25-28 ℃. Setting this range not only ensures equipment stability, but also maximizes the energy-saving effect of the intelligent temperature control system, saving more than 15% energy compared to extreme settings.

Remember a mnemonic: set the temperature to 25, safe and energy-saving; It's not better to lower it, condensation is a hidden danger.

3、 General Setting Practical Guide

No matter what brand of Cabinet Air Conditioner, the operation logic of the control panel is similar. The following is a universal setup process that is applicable to the vast majority of models.

Step 1: Enter the settings menu
Find the "Settings" button on the control panel (usually labeled as "Set", "Menu" or gear icon on the panel). Press and hold this key for 3-4 seconds until the screen changes - some screens will display parameter codes (such as "F01", "P01" or "t1"), while others will jump directly to the current set temperature number and start flashing, indicating that the parameter adjustment mode has been successfully entered.

If there is no response after long pressing for 3-4 seconds, you can try pressing for a longer time. Some models require long pressing for about 6 seconds to unlock modification permissions. If it still cannot be accessed, it means that the model may have set administrator password protection, and you need to refer to the manual for operation instructions.

Step 2: Adjust the temperature value
After entering the settings interface, adjust the target temperature value by pressing the "▲" (up) and "▼" (down) keys on the panel. When adjusting, the numbers on the screen usually flash, indicating that the current status is being modified.

Set the temperature to the target value based on the recommended range mentioned earlier. If unsure, it is recommended to set the universal safety value to 25 ℃ first.

Step 3: Save settings and exit
After the adjustment is completed, the modifications need to be saved. There are usually several ways of operation:

Press the "Settings" button to confirm saving: After adjusting the temperature, press the "Settings" button once, and the screen will stop flashing, indicating that it has been saved

Press the "Power" or "Mode" button to exit: After saving, press the "Power" or "Mode" button again to return to the main display interface

Auto Save: After some models have been adjusted, if there is no operation for several seconds, the system will automatically save the modifications and exit the editing mode

If you accidentally enter an unfamiliar menu interface or parameter code page during operation, do not adjust other values arbitrarily. The correct approach is to directly press the "power" button to exit, or power off and restart to restore the system to its default state, and then try adjusting only the temperature item again.

Advanced parameters: Temperature mode and control hysteresis

Some high-end models offer deeper control options, and understanding these parameters can help manage cabinet temperature more finely:

Temperature mode selection: Some air conditioners can be set with "maximum temperature", "average temperature" or "minimum temperature" as the control basis. It is recommended to choose the "highest temperature" mode, as this can ensure that the area with the highest temperature inside the cabinet will not exceed the standard, and protect all equipment most securely.

Temperature hysteresis (delay value): This parameter determines the temperature range for the air conditioner to start and stop cooling. For example, when the hysteresis is set to 2 ℃ and the temperature is set to 25 ℃, the air conditioner will start cooling when the temperature inside the cabinet rises to 27 ℃ and stop when it drops to 23 ℃. A reasonable hysteresis setting (usually 2-4 ℃) can effectively avoid frequent start stop of the compressor and extend the service life of the equipment. It is not recommended to set the hysteresis too small (such as 0.5 ℃), otherwise the compressor will frequently start and stop, which will consume more power and be easily damaged.

4、 Key considerations in daily operation and maintenance

Regularly clean the filter screen: Dust accumulation on the filter screen of the cabinet air conditioner will significantly reduce the cooling efficiency. Dust and cotton fibers in industrial environments adhere to the filter screen, resulting in a decrease in air intake and a gradual decline in refrigeration efficiency. It is recommended to check the filter screen once a month and perform professional cleaning on the evaporator and condenser once a quarter. When the filter is clogged, even if the temperature is set correctly, the air conditioner cannot effectively cool down.

Pay attention to the direction of the air outlet: The cold air outlet of the air conditioner should not blow directly towards the equipment. Cold air blowing directly onto the surface of equipment can create low temperature zones in certain areas, increasing the risk of condensation water generation. The correct approach is to circulate the cold air inside the cabinet and evenly cool it down. If the cabinet space is large, it is recommended to use it in conjunction with the circulating fan inside the cabinet to distribute the cold air more evenly.

Monitor whether the temperature difference is normal: During daily inspections, attention should be paid to observing the deviation between the actual temperature of the air conditioning return air outlet and the set value. If the deviation continues to exceed ± 2 ℃, it may indicate insufficient cooling or abnormal temperature sensor, and further inspection is needed.

Unknown menu remains unchanged: Professional cabinet air conditioners usually lock some advanced parameters or place them on internal circuit boards, and transmit alarm signals to the monitoring system through remote communication. Non professionals who accidentally enter the "test mode" or adjust the alarm temperature threshold arbitrarily may cause the air conditioner to not send fault alarm signals, leading to accidents. If encountering unfamiliar menu codes, it is recommended to refer to the manual or consult the manufacturer's technical support.

Remember the following points when setting the temperature of the cabinet air conditioner:

Recommended setting range: 22-25 ℃, setting 25 ℃ directly in regular scenarios is the most secure

Three steps to set up: long press the settings button to enter → use the directional keys to adjust the temperature → use the confirm button to save and exit

It's not the lower the better: condensation is the biggest hidden danger, and energy conservation is also an important consideration

Frequent inspection of filter screen: check once a month, wash once a quarter, and ensure the efficiency does not drop

Don't blindly adjust unfamiliar menus: find answers in the manual or consult the manufacturer directly

Regularly checking whether the set temperature deviates and whether the deviation between the return air temperature and the set value is within ± 2 ℃ is a good habit that operation and maintenance personnel should develop. After all, the cabinet air conditioner protects precision equipment worth hundreds of thousands or even tens of millions. A correct temperature setting may avoid maintenance costs several times higher than this.
